Irvington's Northern Neck Neighbors Part 3: Kilmarnock, Virginia

We've saved the biggest for last. The final installment of our three-part series introduces you to the Town of Kilmarnock, Virginia, just north of Irvington. Read Part 1: White Stone and Part 2: Weems to learn about the towns east and west of of us.

Of the three neighboring towns in our region, Kilmarnock is the biggest and busiest, a commercial hub offering a variety of urban amenities. During your visit to the southern Northern Neck, spend a day in Kilmarnock shopping and seeing the sights, then return to Irvington for quiet relaxation.

In previous blogs, we shared businesses and activities in the towns we highlighted. But no one can educate you better than the residents themselves. A number of sites are dedicated to the Town of Kilmarnock, so we encourage you to visit them to learn more about our big brother to the north.

The Town Government has created a number of websites and social media profiles that provide information and resources. For an overview, start with the official Town Government website and Facebook page. From there, you can find links and information on more than 50 businesses and 30 restaurants in Downtown Kilmarnock (voted Eastern Virginia's Best Main Street by Virginia Living magazine) via the Town's Economic Development Facebook page, tourist information at Visit Kilmarnock, VA, or events held at Town Centre Park Facebook or Instagram.

Kilmarnock is one of eight Virginia towns included in Virginia's River Realm, a tourism information center for Lancaster and Middlesex Counties. Visit their Kilmarnock page for detailed information and stories on the people, places and things to do in town.

Love wine and cider? Two members of Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail are located in Kilmarnock (in addition to The Dog and Oyster Vineyard right here in Irvington.) Check out Ditchley Cider Works and Farm for craft cider, meats, historic Manor House Tours and Sunday Brunch. Or award-winning Good Luck Cellars for wine, gifts, and live events.

The four towns that make up the southern tip of the Northern Neck --Irvington, White Stone, Weems and Kilmarnock--look forward to hosting you on the "rivah" soon!
